Chicken soup has been a traditional dish around the world for hundreds of years. It is warm, comforting and tasty. It is also good for one’s health.
Chicken soup is often referred to as a “cure-all”. Studies have found that it can be beneficial for helping to alleviate the symptoms of common colds and flu. Warm chicken soup helps to soothe an irritated throat, clear nasal congestion and provide temporary relief from congestion. The warmth also helps to reduce inflammation in the body, while the chicken and vegetables supply many important vitamins and minerals.
It is not just an old wives tale; chicken soup has a scientific basis. An article published in The Chest in 2000 showed that it contains proteins that reduce inflammation in the upper respiratory tract. This makes it an effective remedy for treating the common cold and other respiratory illnesses.
Chicken soup has also been shown to be beneficial for other ailments. It has been known to reduce joint pain, help with digestive issues and even improve mood.
Although it is often made from scratch with whole ingredients, there are also packaged varieties of chicken soup readily available. Instant soups are convenient, but don’t provide the same amount of health benefits that homemade soup does. When making chicken soup at home, try to use organic ingredients and prepare the broth low and slow to maximize the flavor and health benefits.
Chicken soup has been around for centuries and is still a staple in many households. Enjoy it as a tasty meal or a natural remedy.
